We are a fantasy baseball league whose draft is scheduled for May 1. Ten men enter (or nine or eight), and one man leaves.

The Old Ways Were the Good Ways

Brother Pressman wants to change the way we assign positions, relying on who played what position last year for 15 minutes or so.

I vote against. I vote for taking a look at who is playing what at the start of this season.

The 10/3 method Brother Pressman proposes is useful in leagues *that draft before the season actually starts.*

We do not need to dwell on the past and its mistakes. We live in the now, and in the future.

Brother Moore and I stand together in favor of the traditional ways, spotted dick and soused hog's face.

Also, some math. Ten games out of 162 at any given position is proportionally equal to one game out of 16, which is slightly more than will have been played when we meet to draft. Ergo: players should be eligible at any position they have played AT ALL in the 2007 season.

It's simpler to assign a player to a single position until the DH round. Prep time will be greater if we -- make that I -- need to produce longer player lists at every position. Given the fact that this is the first time we've drafted with 12, I'd rather reduce the number of variables. That is, stay with the way we determined eligibility for years and years.
